The cookies on our website

Browsing data

During its normal operation, and through the use of internet communication protocols, this website implicitly acquires some personal data of the users who access it, such as the IP address, the domain names of the computers from which users access the site, the MAC addresses assigned by the manufacturers of network cards, wireless devices etc.

This information is not collected in order to identify users, but users could be identified through associations and processing, also cross-referenced with third-party data; these data are used to obtain statistical information on the use of the website and its operation, and further information in the event of an investigation into liability for computer crimes.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small strings of text that the websites visited by the user install on their device; these strings are then sent back to the website that installed them when the user visits it again. If, while browsing the website, the user also receives cookies sent by other websites or web servers, these are called third-party cookies.

Cookies are installed for various purposes, which may include computer authentication, monitoring of browsing sessions and choosing the language.

First-party and third-party cookies

Cookies installed directly by Residence Alta Badia are called “first-party cookies”, while cookies installed and acquired by a website other than the one the user is browsing are called “third-party cookies”.

Third-party cookies include social buttons (or social plugins), which allow the website to interact with the best-known social media such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter etc., Google Analytics cookies, those needed to embed YouTube iframes etc. As far as third-party cookies are concerned, it is the responsibility of the third parties to which the cookies belong to provide the privacy notices and information on the management of the data collected.

Types of cookies

Technical cookies
They are normally installed directly by the website operator and allow communication between the website and the user. They may be browsing or session cookies, which ensure the normal browsing and use of the website and usually last as long as the browsing session, or functionality cookies, which allow a better use of the website, such as those relating to the choice of the website language, adding selected purchases to the shopping cart etc.
Since these cookies are necessary for the website to work, the user's prior consent is not required for their installation on the user's device.

Analytics cookies
These cookies collect information about users, for example the number of users visiting the website and how they visit it, in a more or less aggregated form. One of the best-known tools for obtaining such statistical reports is Google Analytics, a service provided by Google Inc.
Analytics cookies can be treated like technical cookies where the information is collected in aggregated form and it is not possible to identify the habits of the individual user; specifically for Google Analytics cookies, the IP address of the user visiting the website must be at least partially anonymised and data sharing with Google must be disabled. Where such anonymisation and absence of sharing are not possible, these cookies are considered profiling cookies.

Profiling cookies
They are used to track a user's preferences and to show them advertising messages based on those preferences. These cookies are particularly invasive and the user's consent must be obtained before installing them on the user's device. If profiling cookies are used, notification to the Italian Data Protection Authority pursuant to art. 37, paragraph 1, letter d) of Legislative Decree 196/2003 is also required.

The banner on first access

The provision of the Data Protection Authority of 8 May 2004 requires, where cookies other than technical cookies are used, a banner to be displayed when the user first accesses the website (the so-called short notice), briefly indicating how the website manages cookies and referring to the extended privacy policy.

Residence Alta Badia has set up the banner: by clicking anywhere outside the banner the user accepts the installation of cookies and decides to continue using the website. A specific cookie has also been set up that stores the user's choice regarding the installation of cookies for 365 days; this means that the user will see the cookie only once and, if they later wish to change their choices, they can do so by following the instructions in the section “How to disable cookies”.
